The Michelin Experience In Rome

Share
We would venture a guess that not everyone reading this article is in the habit of dining at three-star Michelin Restaurants. However, we believe that while there is a time for eating holiday spam-from-a-can, there is also a time for treating yourself to a royal culinary experience. Keep reading for our guide on how to do exactly this...when in Rome!

Whether you’re a yacht-owning millionaire on holiday, or a budget backpacker wearing one of your two outfits, we suggest that you plan ahead and save some pennies to treat yourself to a night at La Pergola – easily Rome’s best restaurant. Situated in the Rome Cavallieri Waldorf Astoria Resort, not only will you be treating your tastebuds, but giving yourself the best five-star panoramic view of the city.

This elegant restaurant is home to one of the best chefs in Italy – German born Heinz Beck. He is famous for his unique and unexpected flavour fusions, with conceptual simplicity, and luxury without the pretention. His love of the Mediterranean/Italian diet comes through in each of his dishes; he is determined to not only present his guests with an exquisite culinary experience, but one that is healthy, too. This is perhaps a little unexpected for a Michelin three star-rated chef (health is the last thing we’re thinking about when spending $90 on a meal), but is something that Beck is particularly passionate about. In his interview with Romeing, he says:

“I’ve been working for 15 years in health; I have a research center with the University of Medicine here in Rome. For this my cooking is a modern, light and healthy cooking of Mediterranean flavours. And it is very important to say it is healthy, because in the end, I am using all this research day by day for more healthy food.”
So what kind of dishes can you expect to find, and the golden question: how much?

Surprisingly, you’ll be able to pronounce over half of the dishes on the menu. You can expect to nibble on Duck foie gras with pear and ginger to start, followed by a deep-fried zucchini flower with caviar on shellfish and saffron consommé. For the main, try pigeon with peanut-crusted black salsify and port-scented snow, or something less frightening such as the fillet of veal with chard. Famous food blogger and writer Elizabeth Minchilli says it all when she says: “The combinations of texture and taste, of temperature and colour, of shape and design all worked to make each mouthful an exhilarating experience.”

Individual dishes seem to hang around the 55 euros price range (approx. $88 AUD), and reach to about 89 euros (approx. $150 AUD), with a full ten course menu coming in at 260 euros (approx. $400 AUD). You may wish to snack on that handy supermarket spam to prepare for this hit to the wallet. But we promise it will be well worth it.

And it’s not just the food you’re paying for – it’s the entire service experience. Good service is something we understand, and encourage, here at Impressive Platters. We know that service can either make or break a customer’s dining experience, which is why we put so much emphasis on personalised and friendly customer service interactions.

At La Pergola, you’ll find the same thing. The staff members are like one big family and have been working together for years. Simply put, they love their jobs, and love to serve. You won’t find any disgruntled waiters here.

Overall, this three-star Michelin experience is one you won’t regret trying. It’s a one-of-a-kind cultural and culinary extravaganza and will take your Roman holiday to the next level, guaranteed.
